The PA-AAUP Conference Board is pleased to announce our annual fall conference. The event, to be held at the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 7th,  is free to all AAUP members who are eligible to receive travel expense stipends. It will feature AAUP President Todd Wolfson who will speak on “Higher Education Against Authoritarianism and for Multiracial Democracy.”

Our conference will include other sessions, including a talk by David Pozen (Columbia Law School). Professor Pozen, is the co-author (with Daniel Hemel) of an incisive new law review essay, “In Search of University Democracy.”  Pozen and Hemel’s argument for “stakeholder governance” as a replacement to the ubiquitous “external governance”  of so many governing boards, is sure to spark considerable interest. We will consider effective strategies for countering higher education managerialism and the proliferation of consultancy firms that are undercutting shared governance, academic freedom and free expression, and faculty rights.

We look forward to greeting participants at this perilous time in higher education. We are able to offer conference stipends to defray participation expenses. Please check out the registration URL: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/7jetpn9
